Less than 3 Glass

Less Than 3 Glass is the backyard flameworking studio of Danielle Mooney. Flamework, historically known as lampwork, is small-scale glass blowing at a torch instead of the traditional furnace. Flameworkers heat rods of glass until they begin to melt. Then using glass, metal, and graphite tools, the glass is combined and sculpted into a bead or ornament. When complete, the glass is put in a hot kiln to anneal and the temperature is slowly brought down. Danielle melts both soda-lime (soft) glass and borosilicate (hard) glass into jewelry and ornaments at her home studio in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Danielle has been flameworking since January of 2023. She took her first class at Fiamma Glass Studio in Waltham, Massachusetts, and returned every weekend for the next 3 months to learn all she could. She has also taken classes at Snow Farm and the Studio at Corning Museum of Glass. Danielle built her studio in April of 2023 and has melted glass almost everyday since. She is careful to make sure that flamework never feels like work so she typically only sells glass in order to afford to melt more glass.
