Stitched Pines
Hi, I’m Amy O’Brien, the hands and heart behind each pine needle basket you see here. I began stitching a few years ago, sitting beneath my favorite maple tree with nothing but curiosity and a bundle of pine needles. The very first basket I made sold, and since then, I’ve had the joy of being part of two artist cooperatives. I now look forward to teaching this beautiful art form and sharing the peace it brings with others.
I work with long pine needles and waxed threads in a variety of colors, coiling and shaping them into unique creations. Some of my pine needles remain in their natural tones, while others I hand-dye for a touch of vibrancy. Each piece is sealed with shellac or sometimes organic beeswax to preserve its natural beauty and strength.
My work ranges from mini baskets (with or without lids) to medium, large, and purse-sized designs, as well as art pieces stitched around wooden, ceramic, or reticulated china bases. I even hand-paint single needles with acrylics, adding intricate details that make every creation one-of-a-kind.
Each basket is a labor of love — slow, meditative, and deeply rewarding. Every stitch holds a story, and every piece carries the spirit of the earth and the joy I feel creating it.
Welcome to my craft — I’m so glad you’re here.
